- Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a high pressure-driven membrane separation technology used for dewatering process streams or increase concentration of low molecular weight compounds. Typical areas of application include purification of process water and pre-concentration of food streams prior to evaporation.
- Nanofiltration (NF) is a pressure driven process like Reverse Osmosis (RO) applied in the area between Reverse Osmosis and Ultrafiltration to achieve highly specific separation of low molecular weight compounds such as minerals and salts from complex process streams. Typical applications include pharmaceutical preparations and removal of colour, of hardness from water.
- Ultrafiltration UF is a low-pressure process for selective filtration of molecules of specified size and weight. Material ranging in size from 1000 MW to 1.000.000 MW are retained by Ultrafiltration membrane while lower molecular weight compounds, salts and water are passing through. Common areas of Ultrafiltration membranes are concentration and recovery of high molecular weight compounds separation/removal of contaminants, clarification, removal of colloids and suspended solids, thus being used as pre-treatment for reverse osmosis units.
- Microfiltration (MF) is the most open cross-flow filtration device for separating large molecular weight suspended compounds from dissolved solids. Typical application of microfiltration includes the removal of high molecular weight compounds such as bacteria, fats, yeasts and fungi: clarification of chemical, biological, pharmaceutical or food solutions, product purification, waste water treatment.
